Access Control Hardware & Installation Prices
A door access system combines hardware, software and installation. Door condition and existing wiring can change the cost even when two proposals use similar readers. Ask for the installed price with locks, controllers, power, credentials and recurring licenses identified, rather than comparing a reader price alone.
As one hardware example, Kisi publishes Reader Pro 2 at $475 and Controller Pro 2 at $850, with listed hardware prices conditional on purchasing specified Kisi plans. These component prices are not an installed per-door package. Locks, wiring, licensing and installer work still need a project-specific price.
| Cost component | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Readers and credentials | Door count and card/fob/mobile mix |
| Controllers and power | Capacity, backup and wiring |
| Locks and installation | Door-specific hardware and labor |
| Software and licenses | Platform, doors and optional features |

Cards and key fobs provide a physical credential. Mobile entry uses a compatible phone and supported reader arrangement. A mixed system may be useful when some staff prefer cards or visitors need temporary access. Compare credential fees and replacement procedures alongside the initial equipment.
Ask to see a user added, assigned to selected doors and removed. The daily administration should be straightforward for the person managing it. Our access control buying guide helps compare credential choices, schedules and software without assuming every system offers the same functions.
Office Door Access, Schedules & Multiple Sites
A staff entrance, shared lobby and internal storeroom may need different access arrangements. List the doors and the times people should use them. Ask how individual permissions and temporary access work, including what happens when schedules change or an employee’s role changes.
For several buildings, compare central management with the equipment needed at each location. Request door access installation costs using the same door list and existing-hardware information. A proposal should show what can be retained and what needs replacement, rather than assume every lock or reader is compatible.
Have the supplier identify who can override a schedule and whether that action appears in the available entry records.
Access Control Software & Ongoing Costs
Recurring charges can cover platform access, door licenses, credentials and optional integrations. Ask which functions remain available if a subscription changes. Camera connections and visitor management may be separate products, so have the supplier demonstrate any integration your business wants to use.
Outage and power-loss behavior depend on the specific equipment and door configuration. Have a qualified installer explain each controlled door and the applicable installation requirements. The access control FAQs cover hardware reuse, offline access and the details to request in an installation proposal.
