20ft & 40ft Shipping Container Prices

Published seller starting prices currently include about $1,800 for a used 20-foot container and $2,200 for a used 40-foot unit. New-container examples start around $2,700 and $4,500 respectively. These are advertised product examples, not delivered prices for every location, and the actual condition and configuration still need confirmation.

A delivery charge can change the better choice between two otherwise similar containers. Ask for the container, transport and tax as separate amounts. Compare shipping container prices for the same size and grade, rather than comparing one seller’s used container with another seller’s one-trip unit.

20-Foot, 40-Foot & High-Cube Containers

Standard dry containers are nominally 8 feet wide and 8 feet 6 inches high externally. A high cube is nominally 9 feet 6 inches high. Interior space is smaller because the walls, floor and roof take room. The door opening can be smaller again, which matters for tall or bulky items.

A 20-foot unit has roughly half the length of a 40-foot container, but the longer container needs a suitable delivery and placement arrangement. Compare the goods you want to store with the interior dimensions and how you will reach them. Side-door and double-door arrangements may improve access without simply buying more space.

New, Used & Rental Storage Containers

One-trip containers usually appeal when appearance, condition and a longer planned ownership matter. Used containers can be economical for ordinary business storage when the actual unit is sound. Ask what the seller means by wind-and-watertight or cargo-worthy, and obtain the condition promise in writing. A storage-grade description alone does not establish suitability for international shipment.

Renting can work for a renovation, temporary inventory or a project with a defined finish. Compare the minimum term, recurring rate and return freight. Get storage container rental and purchase prices for the same period; do not assume twelve rental payments are the only cost of keeping a unit for a year.

Storage Container Delivery & Access Options

Before ordering, tell the supplier where the container will stand and which way the doors should face. Ask how the truck will unload it and what access it needs. A low price on a depot collection listing is different from a container delivered into your intended position.

Locks, ramps, shelving, ventilation and electrical alterations can be optional. Keep those costs separate and choose what the stored goods actually need. Our container buying guide explains the useful differences, while suppliers confirm actual units, delivery and final prices.
